6 Music

This course is a bridge between student experiences from elementary music and future Westgate music courses.  It is based on Western European music. Students will spend some focused time learning and exploring music and theory through the violin in this class. They will develop skills on the violin including instrument care, bowing and pizzicato techniques, ensemble playing, sight-reading, phrasing and dynamics. Students will also participate in a variety of other music activities. These will be designed to support and practice the Essential Learning Areas of the Manitoba Music Curriculum. Singing, body percussion, playing recorder, and experimenting with electronic music tools may be included as well as opportunities for students to listen to, engage with, and discuss a variety of music, focusing on various musicians including Indigenous musicians, Manitoban musicians, and Canadian musicians.This course provides some of the fundamentals needed to prepare students to participate in both the String Orchestra in Grade 7 and the Grade 7 Band. Students also participate in choir class as well.
