Chapel Theme 2022-2023 – Fruit of the Spirit
What Do New Beginnings Mean?
Galatians 5:22. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self control; against such things there is no law.
The Fruit of the Spirit is the theme of our chapels for this year. We want to invite, empower and inspire students to ponder and engage in this tending to God’s call on us. We want to share examples from our own lives, from history and from the Biblical Story of where and how the Spirit and this fruit is evident among God’s people. We want to present to the students that “Of course, it is good to practice acts of kindness, peace, patience etc.” but there is more. It is not just about being ‘good people’.
Choosing good actions might be one way of shaping ourselves, to actually become like Jesus in character. Choosing the tree of life, means staying close to Jesus. Jesus’ life and teachings, death and resurrection have set us free – free to live a good life. A life filled with love, serving one another with humility, freedom to live by the nudging of the Spirit: a good life FOR ALL, not just for ourselves.
What does that look like? What habits and practices could transform us to be vessels of all these great virtues? How do we become a community that bears life, creativity and transformative power for ALL people and ALL communities?
