Westgate has a long tradition of travelling to the Middle East. Over the past 25 years, our grade 11s and 12s have journeyed through Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Egypt, and Israel/Palestine. Currently, the Middle East Trip has our students encountering the sites and people of Jordan and Israel/Palestine. The trip has fostered a connection with a school in northern Israel. We have brought students from the Mar Elias School to our school and have been hosted by these same students when we visit their school. Other highlights of the trip include a four day hike from Nazareth to the Galilee, an exploration of the ancient city of Petra, an experience in the Wadi Rum with the Bedouin, a connection with the Christian community in Bethlehem, and time in the magical city of Jerusalem, looking at its crucial foundation for the three monothestic faiths: Judaism, Islam, and Christianity.
