Senior students can enjoy God’s creation with their friends, with a few teachers tagging along, by participating in one or all of the Marsh and Mountain Club outdoor activities planned each year. An overnight fall hike in Manitoba takes place Friday and Saturday of the Thanksgiving weekend. An overnight winter camp trip in a quinzhee, and a two night snowshoe hike to the Mantario cabin, are usually offered in February. In June’s Alternative Education Week, one of three rotating outdoor events are available each year; hiking in the Kananaskis mountain area in Alberta, cycling between Jasper and Banff, canoeing in the Experimental Lakes Area in northwestern Ontario. This rotation offers students a different experience in each of their senior high years at Westgate, building skills and confidence in wilderness settings that they use in the years to come.
