Tessa was born in Weyburn, Saskatchewan and spent her early years living in Saskatchewan and Ontario before settling in the Wolseley neighbourhood of Winnipeg. Tessa has always loved travelling and being with young people. While studying at Canadian Mennonite University she completed her first practicum at Jubilee Partners (Georgia) working with refugees, and her second practicum as an MCC SALTer in Jamaica teaching conflict resolution and peacemaking at a Bible College. Tessa graduated from CMU with a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Conflict Transformation. After receiving her Bachelor of Education from the University of Windsor, she taught elementary school. Her love of travel led her to becoming a site leader for CMU’s Outtatown Discipleship Program. Tessa then completed her Masters of Education in Counseling Psychology and began a career that she thinks is simply the best: school counsellor. Prior to starting at Westgate, Tessa spent a decade co-leading the church she grew up in (Grain of Wheat Church-Community), raising her four young children and pursuing specialities within the counselling field. Besides working at Westgate Tessa works as a private practice therapist specializing in parent support and perinatal mental health. As a clinical counsellor she specializes in working with neurodiverse kids, brain-based therapy, play therapy, attachment-based therapy, parent education and perinatal mental health. When not working, Tessa can be found chasing toddlers, drinking coffee, arguing about technology with her children about technology or chatting with friends.
