Kara was born in Ottawa, Ontario, but spent her early childhood living in Tanta, Egypt, and Calgary, Alberta, before moving to Winnipeg in 2000. She graduated from Vincent Massey Collegiate in 2010 and from the University of Winnipeg in 2017 with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and a Bachelor of Education. She spent her summers during high school and university working at Fisher Bay Bible Camp in Fisher River, Manitoba and still hums camp songs to herself when she does the dishes. Exploring new countries and experiencing life and relationships in other cultures is something Kara finds extremely enriching. During her University years, she took a semester off to volunteer at a hospital in Nazareth, Israel. She also had the privilege of teaching for four weeks in Eringerfeld, Germany for one of her education practicum placements. She completed her Post-Baccalaureate in Inclusive Education at the University of Manitoba in 2022. When she is not in the classroom, Kara tries to spend as much time as she can outside exploring what Manitoba has to offer. She loves running, cycling, playing ultimate frisbee, climbing, hiking, camping, and canoeing. Kara lives in South Osborne with her husband, Sean, and two young sons. They attend Fort Garry EMC.
