I graduated with a degree in Kinesiology in 1995, followed by my Bachelor of Education in 1997, which launched my career as a full-time physical education specialist. After a decade teaching early years physical education, I found my home at Westgate Mennonite Collegiate, where I’ve now been for fourteen years. Although I continue to get older each year, my grade nine and ten students remain reliably fifteen and sixteen, and their energy is infectious. I currently teach Grade 9 and 10 English Language Arts along with physical education, and I stay involved in all corners of school life through coaching volleyball, supporting theatre production, and leading outdoor education. Canoeing, hiking, and camping, core pieces of our June alternative education programs, remain annual highlights. Most recently, I completed my Master of Education in Second Language Acquisition within the Faculty of Education at the University of Manitoba. I’ve always loved a good challenge, and this experience has allowed me to connect and empathize more deeply with my students. I know what it means to juggle deadlines and assignments right alongside them.
