A Winnipegger and Westgate alum, Johanna (she/her) has happily returned to Westgate’s choral program, this time as the director. A past student of old, transitioning, and new Westgate buildings, her love for music flourished in this vast array of spaces - in and outside of the classroom. Johanna completed a Bachelor of Music with a concentration in music education from Canadian Mennonite University, where she was fortunate enough to explore vocal performance and choral directing. She also holds a B. Ed from the University of Manitoba. Throughout her university years, Johanna spent many summers working at Camps with Meaning. This was foremostly in Bible Instructing and Summer Program Directing roles, though there is little at camp that Johanna hasn’t done. Her love for community is also found in the musical ensemble, and she has had the pleasure of singing with Prairie Voices, Dead of Winter, and the CMU Festival Chorus in the past few years, in addition to opportunities as a vocal soloist. Outside of rehearsal, Johanna was on the planning committee for the Singing Our Journey: Saengerfest 2023, and currently sits on the MCM board of directors as the youth representative. In her own time, Johanna enjoys backcountry camping and canoeing, baking sourdough bread, and watching a great sunset.
